The Network Edition of the Pool Program allows data to be shared and accessed from several computers on a local area network. The data will reside on a central computer designated as the Server with all other computers designated as Workstations accessing that data via the network.
- Install the Network Edition Software
- Make a choice of which computer will be the Server.
- Install the program on the Server first.
- Install the program on every Workstation on the network you intend to run the Pool Program from.
- Retail Edition users install the point of sale
- Share the Server's C Drive
- Prior to configuring the BDE, you must share the Server's C drive in full
- From the desktop of the Server, double-click the My Computer icon.
- Right-click on the C drive (C:) icon and left-click on Sharing and Security. On Windows XP Home Edition (and on Windows XP Professional where simple sharing is turned on), select share this folder’s contents on the network, make sure that the share name is "C" and make sure that the Allow users on the network to change files radio button is selected. On Windows XP Professional (if simple sharing is turned off) select the Share this folder radio button, click the New Share button and type C in the share name. Next click the Permissions button. The network group Everyone should be listed there. Make sure all boxes are clicked under Allow, and click OK.
- Select the Computer Name tab and write down the name of your Server.
- Map the Network Drive
Each Workstation (not the Server) must have a mapped network drive letter assigned. Mapping a drive letter consists of assigning a letter to represent the Server’s C drive. It is not necessary that each Workstation have the same mapped drive letter, but for simplicity’s sake, it is recommended that you use the letter S.
- From each Workstation’s desktop right click on My Computer and select Map Network Drive.
- In the Drive drop-down menu, select the drive letter that you’ve selected to be the common drive letter for your network. Again for simplicity’s sake, it is recommended that you use the letter S.
- In the Folder text box, type \\ServerName\C. (In this case replace ServerName with the name of your server.)
- Configure the BDE on every computer
- Click on Start Control Panel BDE Administrator
- In the panel on the left, there is a "+" sign next to Drivers that if you click on it will allow you to open up a tree. After doing this you'll see a "+" sign next to Native that if you click on it will show you several options. Left click on PARADOX. On the Server, the NET DIR should read C:\WISE06\DATA. On the Workstations, the NET DIR should read S:\WISE06\DATA. The LANGDRIVER should be set to ascii "ANSI". The BLOCK SIZE should be set to 2048. Click out of this line and then at the menu select Object > Apply.Click OK and OK.

- Set the Network Directory
After configuring the BDE, start the program from the desktop icon beginning with the Server. The default password is NONE. Make sure that the password is typed in with the Caps Lock on. From the MAIN MENU of the program click on BILL/EDIT CUSTOMERS. On the workstations only, from the customer screen click Set > Setup > Network Directory. Change the path of the directory from C:\WISE06\DATA to read S:\WISE06\DATA. Exit the program on the workstations and reopen the program. You are now connected to the server and all data entries will be shared and live on the network.
